Organ Music Scores Created by an Organist
Renaud Vergnet is the incumbent professional organist of ‘Saint-Pierre du gros caillou’ Church in Paris. He holds a first prize in organ performance and composition.
‘Ever since I began using large format scores, I could play without page turning problems. I have seldom needed an assistant, I can concentrate on the music and on stop changing. Now, I couldn’t do without these scores. That’s why I decided to create the OrganScore large format edition and make them available to the greater community of organists.’
As a musician, Renaud Vergnet has been influenced by various styles. As an editor of the OrganScore collection, his primary goal is to offer a reference edition of the great organ masters’ repertoire. This ambition leads him to work not only on practical aspects, including graphics and page turn suppression, but also on optimising musical text quality.
As such, he worked on defining the scope and selecting the best texts for J.S. Bach’s complete organ works. Hence he could produce an original edition of the Neumeister Collection of organ chorales and a selection of harpsichord pieces suitable for the organ. he could also complete a few unfinished Bach’s works, and include new transcriptions.
He also undertook the edition D. Buxtehude’s organ work, the source reliability of which remains problematic. For that purpose, he thoroughly studied all manuscripts to propose an original and coherent version in the OrganScore collection.
More recently, he has augmented the OrganScore catalog with many composers in the form of ‘complete works’ (Brahms, Franck, Mendelssohn, Saint-Saëns, Grigny, Symphonies by Vierne and Widor), with transcriptions (Vivaldi, Mozart, Debussy), as well as 3 volumes of ‘Offertoires & Dialogues sur les grands jeux’, bringing the collection to 45 references to date.
He is currently working on new volumes and will publish them on a regular basis.
