Symphony No. 3 was composed in 1911 and published by Durand in 1912. It is dedicated to and was premiered by Marcel Dupré that same year.
The OrganScore edition is made from the original edition, (3e Symphonie pour Grand Orgue par Louis Vierne, Editions Durand, 1912), on which a number of corrections were necessary. Most corrections have been identified by various pupils and friends of Vierne, and compiled by Rollin Smith (Louis Vierne, Organist of Notre-Dame Cathedral, Pendragon Press, Hillsdale, N.Y., 1999).
